Preserving Maritime Heritage
COME AND EXPLORE SS FRESHSPRING—the last of a historic fleet and a proud piece of Britain’s maritime past.
Preserving the past to inspire the future.
SS Freshspring is a remarkable survivor of Britain’s steam-powered naval fleet — the last of her kind. Built in 1946 for the Royal Fleet Auxiliary, she now sits proudly in Bideford, North Devon, restored above deck and home to original steam machinery below.
We invite you to explore her unique story, step aboard, and experience maritime life as it once was. Whether you’re a visitor, volunteer, or supporter, your involvement helps us preserve this historic vessel and inspire future generations through hands-on STEAM learning.
Be part of the journey — and help keep her story alive.
